MAQAM ART GALLERY

We would like to inform you about the opening of Maqam, an art gallery dedicated to the promotion of quality artworks with a particular focus on the modern art of Lebanon.

Maqam's central philosophy revolves around the basic notions of:

1- Authenticity (in a market where fakes and copies are circulating without effective restrictions or warnings)
2- Provenance (in a market where stolen items cannot be traced back or reclaimed)
3- Condition (where restoration might literally mean total repaint)
4- Quality (where artworks are weighted the same without considerations of rarity and excellence).

This is where Maqam would like to locate itself and operate, in order to enhance the value of modern art in Lebanon to an international standard. It is proposing, for an initiated enlightened clientele, selected original authentic artworks, in good conditions, published, catalogued or coming from major collections, within four to five themed exhibitions per annum.

The first show entitled "Landscapes. Cityscapes.1" will focus on landscape and cityscape, in homage to this subject which was so dear to most of the early generations of Lebanese artists. The collection, curated to showcase 30 different approaches to this topic, is rather eclectic and has no pretensions of comprehensiveness. Other artworks made by different artists from Lebanon will be shown later on, in forthcoming exhibitions, as soon as they are selected or presented to us with the required pedigree necessary to give them the credentials of superiority Maqam is committed to provide.
